welding in a van down by the river

It’s always a simple project, until it’s not. The objective was simple, make some shelves in a van to hold some wooden planks. Wanting as much purchase as possible I went with 3/16” angle iron, turns out it’s damn heavy, probably no way to see that coming. A simple Ford transit van with some 2x3” angle iron, some 6011 rod and a sore back.

Turns out it’s hard to put in level shelves in a van. Starting with leveling the van, then the van itself isn’t isn’t straight, so basically it’s an Escher drawing to keep everything parallel. The other kicker was making a removable part of the side door.

All and all it was a good exercise in fabrication. Also in underestimating how long it takes to do a job :-)
